OMarão is a self-promotion packaging project that symbolises “the beauty of many small imperfections” and takes us on a journey to Portugal’s origins and to some of the country’s oldest and best-preserved traditions. Marão is a famous Portuguese mountain, the seventh highest in mainland Portugal. Located in the north, it preserves the essence and soul of people who never abandoned the harshness of these lands. “Beyond the mountains of Marão, those who live there are in command!” is a popular saying that underpins the creative concept of this packaging and refers to the geographical isolation experienced by this population for several centuries. Omdesign® created this packaging to illustrate the toughness, resilience and determination to perpetuate these crafts and these people who, beyond Trás-os-Montes, continue to surprise us with unique products made from distinctive raw materials. We returned to the origins and brought together three traditions in this edition, produced exclusively with 100% natural, sustainable and reusable materials that honour the culture and know-how of Portuguese artisans. Bisalhães black pottery, from a small mountain village, is an art that dates back to the 16th century and has been recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Beaten organic olive oil from the ancient olive trees of Vila Flor. And cork from Trás-os-Montes, an inseparable symbol of our country, reinforcing the ecological and sustainable path that Omdesign® has always defended and promoted since its genesis.
