Kopke launches "The Library Collection" signed by Omdesign

Kopke is launching ‘The Library Collection’, an edition “which aims to honor and celebrate the journey and know-how acquired since 1638”. Omdesign was the agency that developed the concept, design and integral production of this special collection from the Douro wine producer, which presents it as a symbol of “respect for the roots, origins and legacy entrusted to this house over the years”. Composed of three Port wine references, a Very Very Old Tawny, a Vermouth and a Quinine, made at the beginning of the 20th century, the collection arrives in a bookstore concept – from the book-shaped case to the fountain pen designed for this edition and to the original inkwell, and from the cover and spine to the cradle in listed wood.

“We delved into Kopke’s extensive wine and book archive to bring this project to life. We reinterpreted old labels and concentrated the prestige and character of almost four centuries of history in a timeless work that accumulates narratives and proves that the peace of ageing can provide experiences that were not written, by the flow of the ink, of the river, of the wine.”, explains Diogo Gama Rocha, general director of Omdesign.

Omdesign places Portugal in the top5 of the best creative agencies in the world

Omdesign won fifth place in the prestigious ranking of the best creative agencies in the world, for the period 2023/2024. This distinction has just been presented by the World Brand Design Society, which annually highlights the most creative agencies on a global scale.

Occupying a prominent position, Omdesign places Portugal at the top of the list launched by this recognized independent international community, which can be consulted at: www.agencydesignawards.com/winners-2023-24-gold-and-silver.

According to Diogo Gama Rocha, general director of Omdesign, “conquering the Top5 of the best agencies for Portugal is a source of pride for all of us. This ranking attests to the quality of our projects, our dedication, rigor and consistency, but it goes further: it shows the superior level that Portuguese design can reach, here and across borders”.

It should be noted that the Leça da Palmeira agency was recognized with ten prizes in the most recent edition of the WBDS Awards, in the categories “Packaging Design: Product Creation”, “Digital Design: Website” and “Packaging Design: Sustainable Development”, having been distinguished with two Gold, five Silver, two Bronze and one Honorable Mention.

Omdesign signs the new Adamus gin

Omdesign signs the new Adamus gin
Omdesign created the Signature Edition 2023, the new Adamus gin, which, together with the 2021 edition, completes this iconic range, also developed by the Leça da Palmeira agency.

Now launched on the market, Adamus Signature Edition 2023 is the first gin in the world aged in oak barrels from the Baga grape variety.

Organic and vegan, it turns out to be a well-structured, balanced product with balsamic characteristics. Launched as a limited and collector's edition, it shows the brand's ambition to reinforce its recognition as a pioneer in the world of gins.

“Omdesign’s goal was to highlight, in the new packaging, the point of differentiation of this novelty through the original illustrations of wood and almonds”, explains the agency.

Like the 2021 Signature Edition, this new bottle is numbered and strengthened through the set of 360º transparencies that it presents, now in amber color, in the botanicals and its aromas. The exterior packaging has an eco-friendly design, which is an extension of the identity adopted for the Signature Edition range.

For Omdesign, the look of this new reference solidifies, among current and new consumers, the super-premium positioning of the distillates from this renowned Portuguese gin brand, while at the same time praising and portraying the entire history and tradition of Adamus.

Chronicle Whisky won a World Luxury Award for Omdesign

Chronicle Whisky won a World Luxury Award for Omdesign
Chronicle, the luxurious whisky project signed by Omdesign® to The Auld Alliance, won a World Luxury Award, in the “Beverages & Food” category of the 2023 edition of this contest.

Awarded alongside reference brands in the luxury segment, as The Macallan, Dom Pérignon, Tiffany & Co., or Burberry, Omdesign® was recognized by this competition for its excellence, innovation and exclusivity.

To create the Chronicle Whisky packaging, Omdesign® went to the origins of Scotch Whisky, that are on the basis of this concept. The starting point was motivated by the exclusivity of a single cask that carries the spirit of a unique and rare beverage born from the adversity of time and extreme conditions faced during its several decades of aging.

The careful creation of this project represents and honors its heritage, without distorting or disrespecting the purity painted in the harsh landscapes of Scotland. To enhance the mystery behind this nectar, the flavors and aromas that smoothly arise in this beverage are brought to life due to the decanter’s construction with a game of amber and crystal-clear layers.

This edition is an ode to the time-lapse through historical and remarkable spirits, as well as the origins of Whisky itself. Omdesign® gathered all their knowledge of 25 years of experience and developed the whole concept around the idea of preserving and carrying the history of aging and maturing this nectar.

Chronicle was developed from the inside out, in three distinct parts that merge into a single piece. The interior of the exclusive decanter gains the shape of the auld (“old”, in ancient Scottish) cask, which brought this very limited edition to this day, mirroring the brand’s care and will to keep its unique characteristics and legacy intact.

To pay homage to the terroir, Omdesign® resorted to noble fine papers and challenging printing techniques, full of textures and with an incredible sense of touch and feel, to create a realistic and artistic approach to Scotland’s scenery, that worked as a journey through innovation that helped us to elevate the details of this unique decanter.

The Chronicle Whisky concept was conceived with a focus on enhancing the luxurious experience for the consumer. Numerous design elements in this edition were meticulously crafted to elevate the tasting moment and the serving ritual. These include the remarkable pipette – fully developed by Omdesign® – and its pump, the support for the pipette and bartop, as well as the functionality of the display, which opens to facilitate whisky service using The Auld Alliance’s exclusive pipette.

Sustainable Design gives Omdesign Gold at Pentawards 2023

Sustainable Design gives Omdesign Gold at Pentawards 2023
Omdesign® with the “OMel” project represented Portugal, last Friday, in London, and won a Gold in the renowned international design competition, Pentawards.
Awarded in the “Sustainable Design” category, this recognition consolidates the innovative path defined by the agency, since 1998, in promoting a more sustainable future.

Inspired by the way of life of solitary bees, known for being authentic nomadic pollinators and synonymous with hard work, the Omdesign® team created “OMel” and thus opened a network of 150 hotels. Each Bee Om Hotel aims to help pollinate a sustainable mindset. True pollination shelters, bee hotels play a fundamental role in sustainability. They are a safe haven for hibernation in winter and reproduction in summer and, thus, a guarantee of our balance and continuity.

Built with reused and surplus production wooden wine boxes, which would otherwise be destroyed and burned, “OMel” seeks to offer a refuge for solitary bees and contribute to the protection of the environment. This pack also contains a reusable honey jar, with a cork lid and, at the top, there is a pencil-shaped honey spoon, the starting point to continue writing the rest of the story.

The Leça da Palmeira agency invites the installation of “OMel” in urban green areas so that, in addition to helping to preserve nature, it contributes to the urgency of preparing the future.

Omdesign Make(s) a Mark in Luxe Pack Monaco

Omdesign Make(s) a Mark in Luxe Pack Monaco
Make a Mark is an exclusive innovation project between Estal, Avery Dennison, and LEONHARD KURZ, inviting some of the world’s top packaging designers to take part in creating an inspiration platform for Wine and Spirits, amongst other categories. Designers are given an open brief that focuses on both sustainability and luxury and will be able to showcase their insights and ideas. By harnessing some of the most cutting-edge and premium sustainable packaging technologies on the market, the Make a Mark project allows designers to unleash their creativity as far as they can push it.

We took on this challenge, with attention to detail and focus on excellence, so we could make an innovative piece that allowed us to go further and exceed all the limits that were known until now. With careful planning and a strong desire to do well, that gathered not only Omdesign but also our partners' teams, the result went beyond what the industry had previously thought possible.

Omdesign was inspired by the wide range of catalogs and samples composing the Make a Mark toolkit for our project. From high-quality fine papers from Avery Dennison, and hot stampings from LEONHARD KURZ, full of textures and with an incredible sense of touch and feel, to stunning metallic adornments and distinctive ESTAL bottles, all the sets worked as a journey through innovation that helped us to elevate the details of our Chronicle decanter.

Following months of exploring new ideas, pushing creative boundaries and innovating with new materials, the trailblazing new packaging designs developed as part of the Make a Mark project were unveiled at Luxe Pack Monaco, in a specific exhibition room, and were presented to the world on an exclusive event, on the Fairmont Hotel.

How Omdesign is Scripting a Sustainable Future

How Omdesign is Scripting a Sustainable Future
In the intersecting worlds of design and environmental sustainability, Portugal’s Omdesign emerges as a vanguard. With an ethos firmly rooted in simplicity and detail, the award-winning agency has always advocated for a harmonious relationship between man and nature. This year, they bring their ideas to life in a remarkable way — by drawing inspiration from the industrious life of solitary bees. Meet “OMel,” Omdesign’s self-initiated project that’s more than a product; it’s a statement, a lifestyle, and a step towards safeguarding the fragile tapestry of Earth’s ecosystems. With an intricate network of 150 Bee Om Hotels around the world, each crafted from surplus wooden wine boxes, Omdesign’s latest endeavor is not just another design project; it’s a testament to their commitment to ecological responsibility and social impact.

Bee or not to bee?, by Diogo Gama Rocha
Since 1998, Omdesign has believed that true luxury lies in simplicity and details. Year after year, the creative agency raises awareness for the importance of preserving nature and the urgency of preparing for the future.
Here at Omdesign, we have no doubts: we are, and will be, equal to ourselves. Together, we defend our values, our purpose, and our mission. We want to be part of the solution, transform mindsets, and promote a turning point with a view to the common good.
In these years of significant challenges and a lot of creativity, we wanted to go further. With a lot of resilience, audacity, and hard work, we focused on the path we had set out and drew inspiration from a small, great being with a huge impact on our planet.
Omdesign interpreted the way of life of solitary bees, true pollinating nomads, and synonymous with hard work to create this original piece and thus inaugurate a network of 150 hotels! Each Bee Om Hotel is special and will help to instill a sustainable, united, and purposeful mindset.
We tasted the bees’ honey (“mel,” in Portuguese), which we wrapped with the natural cork that welcomes them and gives life to this package. Built with reused and surplus production of wooden wine boxes, which would be destroyed and burned, OMel seeks to return to the environment as a refuge for solitary bees to make it home and continue to protect the biodiversity of ecosystems.
History has written that only in perfect harmony and integration of all parts is it possible for us to cohabit with the glimpse of a future. For this reason, on top of our OMel is the spoon-shaped pencil, the starting point to continue writing the rest of the story. With it, we also collect the nectar delivered by the bees and invite you to reuse the jar that carries it. May the next pages reveal that this is yet another small chapter in our history and our commitment to the future, full of daring, dedication, and consistency.
This self-promotion project was thought to work as an alert and a representation of the importance of the circle of life. Our Bee Om Hotels network will create a perfect and safe habitat for bees around the world. We selected all the materials based on the 3 “R” idea: reused wood, reusable jars, spoon-shaped pencils, and reduced production processes. As Albert Einstein is thought to have said, “If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live.” True pollination shelters, the bee hotels play a crucial role in sustainability, so they are a safe place for winter hibernation/summer reproduction and, thus, a guarantee of our balance and continuity.
Omdesign also used virgin raw materials to avoid a negative impact on the environment. To start installing OMel, firstly, we need to remove the honey collector pencil, press the layers of wood down, and remove the jar as soon as the boards are all together. Then, we cut the two dowels placed at the top and hung this bee hotel in a green area in the heart of the city, 1mt above the ground, in a stable location, and with the holes facing forward. We also should favor places with flowers and avoid proximity to bird nests to keep bees safe. After the installation in nature, we cannot disturb the bee hotel during winter since the solitary bees will only emerge the following spring. Hopefully, this will show the world that the next chapter is written with hope and sustainability!

Graphis, known worldwide for rewarding excellence in various areas of design, highlights the agency's notorious commitment to ecological responsibility and social impact. Diogo Gama Rocha, general director of Omdesign, argues that they intend to “be part of the solution, transform mentalities and promote an inflection point, with a view to a common good. With a lot of resilience, audacity and work, we remained focused on the course set and drew inspiration from this great little being, with a great impact on our planet. We hope this network of true pollination shelters will also be an inspiring example of how design can be used as a powerful tool to preserve Earth's fragile ecosystems.” Built with reused and surplus production of wooden wine boxes, which would otherwise be destroyed and burned, “OMel” seeks to return a refuge to the environment for solitary bees to make home and continue to protect and encourage biodiversity.

Omdesign reveals the identity and labeling of Quinta do Saião

Omdesign reveals the identity and labeling of Quinta do Saião
With a family wine tradition spanning centuries and generations, Fernando Van Zeller unifies all this knowledge, history, legacy and authenticity at Quinta do Saião. Omdesign was the agency responsible for bringing this brand to life, located beyond Vila Nova de Foz Côa, in the Alto Douro Wine Region, between the river and cliffs.

Inspired by the purity and uniqueness that make up the more than 100 hectares of this estate, with endless landscapes of living nature, the creative agency's goal was to transpose into this identity the perfect balance between classic and modern, with the usual quality and consistency that the Douro and this family personify.

With an original and exclusive illustration that pictures the freedom of birds and the boldness of the wildlife found on this Quinta, Omdesign also sought to reflect the simplicity, elegance and dignity that the brand presents, reflected in its unique products, of undeniable quality.

With minimalist and elegant labeling, made up of two pieces, Quinta do Castro do Saião wine highlights, at the top, the mother brand, while highlighting its premium character with the presentation of the bottle numbering and the winemakers' signatures on the bottom label.

Omdesign rebrands Quinta da Lagoalva

Omdesign rebrands Quinta da Lagoalva
Quinta da Lagoalva – a wine project belonging to the Holstein Campilho family and whose property is located in Alpiarça – chose 2023 as a year of change, materialized in the rebranding of the logo and labels of its wine portfolio, which will hit the market by the end of the year, as new harvests are released. Added to this is the commitment to the region's flagship grape variety, with the debut of Quinta da Lagoalva Grande Reserva Fernão Pires and another reference, to be revealed soon. Led by Pedro Pinhão, administrator and director of oenology – in partnership with oenologist Luís Paulino –, this dynamic arises within the scope of the movement to promote this variety, promoted by the Regional Wine Commission for Tejo Wines, at the national and international level.

The new image was developed by the Portuguese design and advertising agency Omdesign, in close collaboration with the oenology, commercial and wine tourism teams of Quinta da Lagoalva. Creatives and designers visited the Quinta and immersed themselves in the Lagoalva universe, in order to capture its essence and some of the most striking elements, which came to integrate the new labels, in image and in texts – written with the support of the family and some of the older workers. A way of honoring the legacy of this iconic property, with 830 years of history and 660 contiguous hectares, of which 42 are vineyards and 16 olive groves. The logo, a striking element on the current labels, kept the iron of the Quinta da Lagoalva stud farm – alluding to the Marquesa de Tancos, great-aunt of the owners – as a symbol. Assuming the historical legacy, it became part of the mention “Circa 1193”, the date of the first registration of Quinta da Lagoalva. In terms of colors, we opted for blue and gold and, for the spelling, for a sans-serif typeface, in a combination between contemporaneity and classicism, the path chosen for this new image. Icons of this Ribatejo farmhouse, the palace façade and the clock tower will be present on all the labels of the Lagoalva, Quinta da Lagoalva and Dona Isabel Juliana ranges.

To materialize this new identity, which will gradually reach the market throughout this year, Quinta da Lagoalva already has the new vintages of white, rosé and red Lagoalva on the market; Lagoalva Sauvignon Blanc; Lagoalva Reserva white and red, but also its absolute debut: the Quinta da Lagoalva Grande Reserva Fernão Pires white 2021.

Omarão wins an iF Design Award for Omdesign

The 2023 edition of the iF Design Awards awarded Omdesign, having awarded, this year, an award to its self-promotion packaging “Omarão”, in the Food discipline and in the Packaging category.

This project celebrates and honors Portuguese traditions, the unique landscape and the core values of the design agency.

Located in the north of the country, Marão is a well-known Portuguese mountain range, with a population that still subsists with traditional methods and produces unique raw materials born from the wild lands. Motivated by these elements, Omdesign produced this packaging in order to reflect the unique landscape of this Portuguese land, the resistance and resilience of ancestral cultural arts and also reinforce the ecological and sustainable path that Omdesign has defended since its genesis.

This pack uses 100% natural, sustainable and reusable materials, paying homage to the culture and know-how of Portuguese artisans, namely three almost forgotten and undervalued arts: black clay from Bisalhães, cork from Trás-os-Montes and organic and retail olive oil from Vila Flor.

Omarão stood out in front of a jury with 133 members, composed of independent specialists from all over the world, reinforcing and mirroring the beauty of the many small imperfections. The 2023 edition of the iF Design Awards had around 11 thousand projects registered, from 56 different countries, which competed with the expectation of receiving the highest seal of world design.

Omdesign reinforces leadership in the top of the most creative agencies in the world

Omdesign stands out in 14th place in the Global Agency Design Ranking of the World Brand Design Society, which annually presents the leading and most awarded agencies worldwide in the design field. This distinction reinforces the positioning and notoriety of Portuguese design, which has been universally sought after for its superior quality. As a result of the rigor, consistency and focus on excellence that Omdesign has defended for 25 years, this ranking (available at https://worldbranddesign.com/global-agency-design-ranking/), once again places Portugal at the top of the list.

Sustainability also continues to be present in the mission and portfolio of the Leça da Palmeira agency, with its self-promotion project “Omarão” being recognized with Silver, in “Sustainable Packaging Design”, in the last edition of the World Brand Design Awards. Fulfilling Omdesign's annual tradition of sensitizing its customers and partners with a positive and ecological message, the “Omarão” concept embraces sustainability through the use of 100% natural and reusable materials. Under the motto “Beyond the mountains of Marão, command those who are there”, this edition takes us to the origins of our country, valuing the ancient traditions and arts of Portuguese culture, such as black pottery from Bisalhães, organic olive oil from Vila Flor and the cork of Trás-os-Montes.

Obsession with detail

“Obsessed with the detail of the detail”. This is how Omdesign is, in the words of the founder and director-general, Diogo Gama Rocha. The Leça da Palmeira agency celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2023, with several hands full of awards. A journey in which design is assumed as a tool of differentiation.

It presents itself as a 360° agency, with solutions in different areas, transversal and consistent: from design to production, from branding to packaging, from press to digital, and from the point of sale to the final consumer. Both in the mass market and in the luxury sector, the common denominator is always Omdesign's “excellence”, guarantees Diogo Gama Rocha, about the agency he founded in 1998. Design is used as a tool for differentiation. And, combined with “the ambition and constant demand for innovative and effective solutions”, it has contributed to customer loyalty and to building lasting relationships with partners, in the four corners of the world.

It is also from many geographies that the distinctions for the Leça da Palmeira agency arise, which the general director sees as a consequence of the dedication and consistency of the work and not as a goal. He admits, however, the importance of recognition, understanding that “each distinction helps to contribute to raising the recognition of Portuguese design”, worldwide. Whether in the national or international market, the agency is sought after for its work, its “excellence” and its mission. This, says Diogo Gama Rocha, has been reflected in a growing number of projects and international clients.

“We like to see our agency's work being appreciated and sought after by other brands, sectors and cultures, and this is also inspiring for the whole team”. “Our goal is to continue to do our job very well, regardless of the brand or the value of the product, but always with the same attention and dedication that characterize us”, he says.
Omdesign's values have, in fact, been constant since 1998. And the founder hopes that, “250 years from now, they will be the basis of success” and the continuity of the agency. The evolution was great and “in a good way”, “from the globalization and digitization of everything and everyone to the speed with which we communicate”.

As such, he defends that “today, more than 25 years ago, brands have an obligation” to be more authentic, to be even closer to the consumer and their needs and, above all, to speak the truth. “That is our place, together with our customers, to help them build and strengthen the greatest asset they have: their brand”, he observes, considering that, in this very fast change, “authenticity, versatility and adaptability” are essential factors for success. “Over these 25 years, Omdesign has been able to observe and be part of this evolution, as an agent of a change that we want to be positive and timeless”, he adds.

Was there luck on this route? “Doing it well just once can even mean luck, but doing it repeatedly is, for us, something that involves a lot of commitment, constant dissatisfaction, wanting to go further and a lot of time invested in each project”, comments Diogo Gama Rocha, guaranteeing that clients and partners know the agency's requirement.

“They know that we are demanding and obsessed with the detail of the detail”, he comments. For 2023, he foresees a year of “stimulating challenges and outstanding projects”, not least because “it is in adversity that the best opportunities are revealed”. The path will be to maintain the same boldness and dedication that the agency proposed when it started this journey, in 1998. “Our great ambition will be to continue to sow a mindset of excellence, sustainable and innovative in each project we embrace”, he concludes.

Quinta do Piloto’s rare Moscatéis have just won a World Luxury Award for Omdesign, alongside leading brands such as Louis Vuitton, Montblanc, Cartier, Hermès, Ritz Carlton, Rolls Royce and The Macallan.

The panel of 20 judges of this competition, the only global Creative Award focused entirely on recognizing the excellence of the work done for premium brands that invest intensively in the luxury segment, gave only 15 awards, internationally and in different areas. For Diogo Gama Rocha, general manager of Omdesign, “this distinction reinforces the privilege we have to work with brands and clients, who actively invest to enhance and add value to their products and their category, in this case, the Moscatel de Setúbal. Omarão Packaging Design created by Omdesign

Omarão Packaging Design created by Omdesign
Omdesign creates self-promotional packaging that honours Portuguese traditions, the unique landscape and the design studio’s core values.

This self-promotion packaging entitled ‘OMarão’ from Portuguese studio Omdesign reflects the unique landscape of the Portuguese land, the toughness and resilience of the ancient cultural arts and reinforces the ecological and sustainable path that Omdesign has always defended and promoted.

Located in the northern part of the country, Marão is a famous Portuguese mountain, beyond which resides a population who still exist using traditional methods and produce unique raw products born from the harsh lands. Taking inspiration from these parts, Omdesign produced this packaging with 100% natural, sustainable, and reusable materials, honouring the culture and well-doing of the Portuguese artisans.

Utilising an almost forgotten tradition, the main body of the packaging is produced using the Bisalhães black pottery technique. This form of pottery originates from a small mountain village in Vila Real and dates to the 16th century. The clay is cooked in open-air ovens with dirt, which gives it that distinctive black tone and is 100% lead-free. Remaining in the soil and in the oven muffled, the technique causes oxygen deprivation which also reduces its acidity, creating a perfect vessel to hold olive oil.

The cap is made with cork from Trás-os-Montes, an inseparable symbol of Portugal and an important factor responsible for CO2 retention. This raw material is 100% natural and 100% renewable and a crucial element in the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems.

All exterior packaging is also produced using sustainable and recyclable materials. To complete the pack a small booklet was created which outlines the history and original concept and finished with an original illustration depicting the unique landscape beyond the mountains of Marão. The overall design not only reflects the Portuguese studio’s core values but sets out to faithfully represent the identity and culture of their country.

Omdesign brings two more iF Awards from Berlin to Portugal

Omdesign brings two more iF Awards from Berlin to Portugal
Omdesign has just won, in Berlin, two more iF Design Awards for Portugal, with the projects “Niepoort Bioma Vintage 2017” and “Omdesign 2020 – We’ve got a lot of nerve!”, in the “Packaging - Beverages” category. This German competition has been recognized around the world as a symbol of excellence in design since 1954 and distinguishes projects in different areas, from product to communication, from packaging to aeronautics, among others.

The special edition of Bioma 2017, the Niepoort’s Knife in Teeth Vintage, was distinguished with an iF Award, in the “Wine packaging” subcategory. Motivated by the irreverence and boldness of Dirk Niepoort, the current leader of the company and a member of the fifth generation of the family, Omdesign was inspired by the shape of the key aisle present in the Quinta de Naples winery to create this differentiating case full of details, which reflects the spirit and tradition of Niepoort.

In turn, the self-promotion pack “Omdesign 2020 – We’ve got a lot of nerve!”, which combines Minerva canned fish with Niepoort's Port wine, is awarded in the subcategory “Spirits and liquor packaging”. Developed exclusively using recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials, such as cork, paper and cardboard, this ecological packaging carries the best that the sea gives us, together with what is only born in the Douro, while bringing together three brands’ ambassadors of Portugal to give life and soul to this edition.

For the agency, “due to their differentiation, these two projects clearly mirror the spirit and DNA of Omdesign and corroborate the importance of continuing to come out of the box (and out of the can) every day. This recognition also consolidates the commitment to the quality and excellence of the work we create, from Leça da Palmeira to the whole world”.

The two projects signed by Omdesign take the stage in Berlin, alongside internationally renowned brands such as PepsiCo, Apple, Bosch, Samsung, BMW Group, Sony, and Audi, among others. With these two distinctions, the creative agency has won a total of 17 awards since 2016 in this prestigious contest, known as the “Design Oscars”, and reinforces its position in the competition ranking, occupying the TOP3 of “Beverages Packaging”, at a global level.

The 2022 edition of the iF Design Awards had around 11,000 entries from 57 countries, which were carefully evaluated by a panel of 75 international judges, highly specialized in the sector.

Omdesign wins eight more awards at the Muse Awards – USA
Omdesign was again multi-awarded in the United States of America, having won eight more awards for Portugal in this year's edition of the Muse Design and Muse Creative Awards. Three Platinum, three Gold and two Silver were the distinctions that this competition gave to the agency of Leça da Palmeira.

At the Muse Design Awards, Omdesign was awarded with a total of seven distinctions, all in “Packaging” category. The three Platinum were awarded, in the “Limited Edition” subcategory, to the Moscatéis de Família project, by Quinta do Piloto, and to the Bioma 2017, the Vintage with the knife in teeth by Niepoort, and to the new Adamus Signature Edition 2021 gin.

The Super Bock Collector's Edition is a double winner of this contest, receiving two Golds: one in the Muse Design Awards, in “Packaging”, in the “Limited Edition” subcategory with the commemorative packaging of this beer with body and soul, and the other in the Muse Creative Awards, in the “Video – Food and Beverage” category, with the TV spot of the same campaign.

Also at the Muse Design Awards, the other Gold, in “Self-promotion”, was awarded to the Omarão packaging. This Omdesign project celebrates Portugal, while recovering and honoring three important arts in our country: cork from Trás-os-Montes, olive oil from Vila Flor and Black Pottery from Bisalhães.

The C. da Silva aguardente (brandy) and Crasto Altitude 430 packaging, from Quinta do Crasto, were also awarded in this competition, winning two Silver in “Wine, Beer & Liquor”.

For Diogo Gama Rocha, general manager of Omdesign, “it is with great pride that we continue to see Portuguese design being recognized at the highest level. The dedication and quality that Omdesign places in each project is the result of the consistency and rigor that we have defended and practiced since 1998, and is a stimulus for us to continue to do more and better”.

It should be noted that 2022 is the sixth consecutive year that Omdesign has been recognized in this prestigious North American design competition, which annually rewards creative professionals for their excellence. This edition of the Muse Creative Awards and Muse Design Awards had the submission of more than 6,000 works, from the four corners of the world, which were evaluated by a panel of 37 highly specialized judges in the sector.

Niepoort Bioma Vintage 2017 – “A Vintage with the knife in teeth”

Niepoort Bioma Vintage 2017 – “A Vintage with the knife in teeth”
Niepoort, recognized company producer of Port wines since 1842, launched a special edition limited to 100 units, with identity, image and production signed by Omdesign, that is entirely inspired by Dirk Niepoort, one of the most emblematic and charismatic ambassadors of Port wine.

A 5th generation member of the family, he is the face, soul and audacity that inspired the agency's creative team to create this original “Vintage with the knife in teeth”, which reflects the spirit and tradition of Niepoort, who bet on and gave everything to produce this unique wine.

The shape of the corridor of the collection of keys at the Winery on Quinta de Nápoles, in the heart of Douro, was the basis for this concept and shaped both the handle of this pack and the image adopted for the labeling. The key chosen, among so many options, by Dirk to open the door of this edition, pays homage to and remembers his father, Rolf, an invertebrate collector of various objects, namely keys, like the one that Omdesign replicated and transported for this project.

The first 100 members of the new club receive a unique key in oxidized bronze, which allows exclusive access to “Rolf & The Collectors”, under the motto: “For each key there is a lock, for each lock a door and behind each door, an experience”.

Omdesign has developed several original illustrations that refer to Dirk and his universe, from the Crocs to the vest he always wears, and that give life to the different materials created.

Produced in oak wood with screen-printed elements, “Rolf & The Collectors” reminds, in its shape, an old toolbox. Inside, there is a bottle, four hand-painted tiles that together reveal the famous sentence: “Tu podes, assim tu queiras!”, which means you can since you want to, commonly used by Dirk, and its cork back was designed to allow them to also be used as coasters. It also counts with a booklet, that invites us to explore and walk through the essence of this project, with the Crocs in serigraphic varnish that guide our reading across the legacy that Dirk has guided in recent years. Specially designed and created for this packaging, there is also an exclusive wooden board with a green leather handle and a numbered knife, which embody the concept of this “Vintage with the knife in teeth”.

The numbered label is a unique and innovative piece, which embraces the original screen-printed bottle of the Niepoort Bioma Vintage 2017. Inside, there is a small comic strip, which illustrates Dirk and the corridor of keys of his father, which can be detached and used, for example, as a postcard. Each label has an irreverent image, reinforced by the modeled relief and stamping foil, and is manually applied with resin medals featuring illustrations created by Omdesign, a tribute to the six generations of the Niepoort, and whose inspiration came from the symbol of its founder, the basis of the Niepoort logo.

Niepoort Bioma Vintage 2017 is a return to the past, with eyes set on the future, a legitimate “Vintage with the knife in teeth”, which represents well the will and boldness of Dirk, who inherited the challenge of “innovate while maintaining their good traditions”, motto that has dictated his journey and the guidance of that legacy until the present, now with his children.

Diogo Gama Rocha: "Simplicity and discretion are the finest characteristics of elegance"

Diogo Gama Rocha: Simplicity and discretion are the finest characteristics of elegance
"Design is not art at all! ...it must have art", says Diogo Gama Rocha, in the Omdesign's headquarters next to the sea in Matosinhos, the metropolitan area of Porto. It captures well the spirit that guides an entire team of professionals in design.
Since several years Omdesign proves its strong expertise in packaging design in the iF DESIGN AWARD with a top 3 position out of more than 800 participants and a top 10 position out of all award-winning design studios within the last five years.

Diogo Gama Rocha
Born in Oporto, Portugal, in 1973, he is Founder of Omdesign, one of the top Portuguese design and advertising agencies. Diogo graduated in graphic design at ESAD in Matosinhos, Portugal, and received his Master degree in Marketing and International Trade at ESADE in Barcelona, Spain. He has been a jury member for various renowned design competitions and won several design awards including even two iF Gold Awards since 2016.

Omdesign's Roots and Evolution
The advertising and design agency Omdesign was created in 1998, the year in which Lisbon was hosting the world exhibition Expo 98. After more than two decades of existence, it has evolved from a micro to a small business company. It shows an unhurried evolution and a process of continuous development, which the company stands for. It is a way of living that Diogo Gama Rocha likes to pass on to his entirely national team. A multidisciplinary team, where the creative part plays the biggest role, while communication and production are also fully integrated.
As a dedicated worker, Diogo Gama Rocha demands the same intensity from his team. Luckily, it already comes natural to them, that dedication and commitment are the only ways to ensure reaching new stages of professional evolution. Thus it's all done very naturally, without the need to push too hard. As Diogo Gama Rocha always says: "Simplicity and discretion are the finest characteristics of elegance."

Diogo Gama Rocha:
"Focus and pragmatism plus the continuous search for perfection and excellence are part of my philosophy of life."

iF: Since 2015, Omdesign has gained a reputation nationally and abroad, by being recognized and awarded in several reputable design competitions. What do you think were the crucial factors for that success?
DGR: Well, this recognition is the result of many different circumstances. Especially Omdesign's relationship with its suppliers and partners played a crucial role in that. To communicate about how to work and how to do a job properly, is the most important factor for that relationship. You can overcome the difficulties of manufacturing processes only together. It is a two-way relationship between company and suppliers or partners, in which the internalization of the same values and principles are fundamental for working together. Because success and problem management is a team effort, achieving a good working relationship is so essential.

iF: Were their any specific circumstances in your past, that had an impact on your capabilities and the way you are working? For example your family background?
DGR: My family environment provided me with a rich atmosphere, with marks and examples of my father and grandparents who, in addition to their flair and inclination for many trades, they all had a desire to learn, to search for knowledge in different areas. My father had a workshop at home, just near his home office, allowing him to give into his passion for all things dealing with crafts and classic cars. My mother heavily influenced my sense for details and ability to create refinement.
My grandmother played a role in awakening my orientation and demand for color detail, as she was a visual artist. Lastly, the figure of my grandfather João Martins da Costa, known visual artist and reference in the Portuguese art world, was also an important influence. His nickname was "Portuguese da Vinci", because he had a bright personality with a progressive way of thinking. For example, he studied on the use of energy produced by the tides, that were recently adapted and materialized.

iF: What do you think about perfection or rather what leads to a perfect result?
DGR: Well, personally I think, that I have never achieved perfection nor will I any time soon. But I admit, that there were times when I had the feeling of almost reaching this so-called perfection. The path leading to it is plastered with a huge amount of work and a whole lot of unsatisfaction. Since 1998, focus and pragmatism plus the continuous search for perfection and excellence are part of my philosophy of life. This is also the modus-operandi of Omdesign's team. In a simplified manner, there are only two ways of doing things: good or bad. That unsatisfied middle ground doesn't matter. You know you have to work hard to reach 'good' and even harder to reach 'very good'. I am fully aware of all that was achieved yesterday or will be achieved today have to be overcome tomorrow. This is the philosophy of Omdesign, something that is present daily and existed since the very beginnings of the company.

iF: Do your customers perceive your perfection oriented mind set?
DGR: In Omdesign we will always go beyond the expectations customers have – from the beginning to the end of the process. I am really satisfied by this requirement and consistency. And I even get paid for something I enjoy doing. But to conclude the topic of perfection: Like my father, I have a cutout on my desk with a quote by Voltaire: "Perfection is attained by slow degrees; it requires the hand of time."

Professor Gaspar Martins Pereira:
"Working with Diogo and the Omdesign team is a privilege. With craftsmanship, they combine process simplicity, audaciousness and modernity."

iF: The company's brand, logo and symbolism you've created remained unchanged since its foundation. Is there a particular meaning to the logo?
DGR: Yes, the green and blue of the logo have a meaning. Green stands for nature and blue for water. That takes us to the sky, to the sea and to the element that sustains life. That's what I felt at the time for the company's brand and it still remains.
It is an identity and as such an idiosyncrasy that doesn't fall for fashions, trends or vanity. In 2021, Omdesign presented a booth at the Luxe Pack Monaco fair, all in that particular shade of green.

iF: We've already come to the last question: What is Omdesign currently up to?
DGR: Currently, Omdesign has the privilege of working on the greatest asset of companies: brands. I don't believe, that the productive capacity is the most important factor for a company's wealth. In my opinion it is the brand, the products. If a company's factory burns down, the production capacity is terribly affected. The brand however is not lost in the fire. Professor Gaspar Martins Pereira, a friend of mine and a person I have great respect for, once told me, that there are many companies that have lasted for over 300 years but what they have left behind was quickly forgotten. He told me, that Omdesign with these last twenty years has already left work of unforgettable quality – I quote: "Working with Diogo and the Omdesign team is a privilege. With craftsmanship, they combine process simplicity, audaciousness and modernity. The right ingredients to make their work a shared art and a pleasurable thing."

iF: Well, that's a wonderful way to end this interview. Thank you very much for your time.

The interview was conducted and recorded by Tiago Krusse – Editor-in-Chief at Portugal-based "Design Magazine" – on site in Porto.

Omdesign’s packaging wins international design awards

Omdesign’s packaging wins international design awards
Currently, a product’s packaging matters as much as the content and that is exactly what the packaging “We’ve got a lot of nerve!”, developed by Omdesign in partnership with Minerva and Niepoort, proves by winning three international awards in design and packaging categories – a Silver at Pentawards (UK), a Red Dot (Germany) and a Gold at Graphis (USA).

«This packaging is special and carries the best that the sea gives us, alongside with what is only born in Douro. We have brought together two ambassadors from our country – canned food and port wine – to give life and soul to this packaging and we gathered two iconic Portuguese brands that have a huge legacy”, says, in a statement, the general manager of the agency, Diogo Gama Rocha.

The inside of the pack is made of 100% recycled cardboard that can be reused in various ways in everyday life (calendar, coaster, etc.) and its organic origin makes it a biodegradable, compostable and recyclable. On the outside, the various elements, made of cork, paper and cardboard, are assembled using a fitting system, without any type of glue, reinforcing the sustainable aspect of this Omdesign’s edition.

Dirk Niepoort, ambassador for Port wine, was challenged by the agency to create an original recipe that combines Niepoort’s Port with Minerva’s canned codfish, “praising the excellence and flavors of what is most genuinely made in Portugal”, points out the agency.

Super Bock Collector’s Edition reaches the market with design and campaign signed by Omdesign

Super Bock Collector’s Edition reaches the market with design and campaign signed by Omdesign
“A beer with body and soul” is the campaign claim created by Omdesign for the launch of Super Bock Collector's Edition, whose design and packaging were also carried out by the agency from Oporto. With a production of just 500 numbered bottles, this special edition presents itself as “a unique beer with an incomparable flavor and aroma, which honors the origins of the Companhia União Fabril Portuense (CUFP), the current Super Bock Group, and pays homage to the microbrewers responsible for its genesis”. The goal was to create a beer that “combines the knowledge of the masters with the flavor of malts”, pointing to the “perfection that is only available for those who, day after day, try to do more and better and seek what has never been achieved before”.

The packaging signed by Omdesign has a bottle adorned with screen-printing, characterized by the representation of the panels by Augusto Gomes present at the production room of Leça do Balio, where “the mastery and work of the artisans who transform cereals and hops, and where the agency looked for the detail that illustrates this Super Bock Collector's Edition”.

“The individual case, which protects and carries this special blend, created and produced in cork and cardboard, also has two exclusive tall glasses, specially chosen for a good sharing moment, raising this beer to a level never seen before in the beer universe”, described the agency in a press release, which highlights that “the detail of the swing-top sealed in red exalts the artisanal character of this blend, in which all the colors refer to the brand's DNA and, together with the metallic resin medal with the logo, reinforce the premiumness of this beer, designed essentially for collectors who value excellence, exclusivity and new experiences”.

In addition to the design of the product and packaging, the agency's work also covers the naming, concept and storytelling of Super Bock Collector's Edition, with Omdesign also signing the creativity of the multimedia campaign to communicate the launch of this special edition, under the claim “A beer body and soul". The campaign also includes a photographic production that focuses “not only on the details and the manufacturing process of this unique blend and its distinctive packaging, as well as the uniqueness of this edition developed for 'connoisseurs'”.

A journey through time with the new and rare Quinta do Piloto’s Moscatéis

A journey through time with the new and rare Quinta do Piloto’s Moscatéis
Known as "the house of rare and luxury Moscatéis", Quinta do Piloto, in Palmela, has just presented the two recent precious and rare novelties of its portfolio: the Quinta do Piloto Moscatel de Setúbal Family Collection and the Quinta do Piloto Moscatel Roxo Family Collection. These Moscatéis are a limited edition of 25 bottles and a real journey through time, that offer to taste a century of passion and dedication of a Palmela’s historic family.

Protected in the shadow of Quinta do Piloto’s winery for the family, the 10 small 50-liter barrels of Moscatel were reserved by the founder, Humberto da Silva Cardoso, when he acquired the estate. Over the years, the four generations followed the ritual of annually attesting the barrels with the best of each harvest.

With the last attestation, in 1996, Quinta do Piloto Moscatel de Setúbal Family Collection is a fortified topaz-coloured wine, heavily loaded with olive green tones. In terms of aroma, it is very complex and exuberant with notes of coffee, honey, nuts, tobacco and hints of surrounding vegetation and curry. On the palate, it is an old and rare wine, with a concentration of sugars that makes it mellow, concentrated and dense, with a vibrant acidity that results in a unique and memorable taste.

Quinta do Piloto Moscatel Roxo Family Collection is presented in a very heavy topaz colour and greenish tones. With the last attestation, in 2005, this generous aroma shows a complex aroma, with a perception of sweetness, but also notes of salty caramel, sweet tobacco and white flowers. The palate is mellow, concentrated and dense.

"These Moscatéis are a tribute to my great-grandfather, founder of the Quinta, Humberto da Silva Cardoso and aim to reflect all the knowledge and care of our family, until today, and also of the 200 hectares of vineyards in the best terroirs in our region. They are true treasures that are part of the history of wine production in Portugal and that Quinta do Piloto has been following", says Filipe Cardoso, owner and winemaker of Quinta do Piloto.

"A homage wine with so many sources of inspiration! The colours are obvious, but distinct and identifying of the Quinta and of the region. We were inspired by an original bottle of Moscatel de Setúbal, a model closer to Bourgogne, to create the exclusive decanter, which is adorned with a collar and has several elements that refer to the cinema theatre in Palmela and to Quinta do Piloto. We used the monogram present on the gate of the cinema with the initials of the founder of the Quinta, we merged all the elements, with the delicate silver and gold finish, and we took the detail that we have on the packaging and on the decanter to the original plaster ceiling of this emblematic room. We also completed these pieces with details of some tiles of the reception and the bartop has an interlacing, which represents the tradition and art of well-making these Moscatéis, all inside this chest, which is a journey through time to the essence of this family, company, region and category", says Diogo Gama Rocha, general manager of Omdesign, the creative agency responsible for the design and production of all materials of this project.

Located in Serra do Louro, in Palmela, with an immense panoramic view over Lisbon and Tagus valley, Quinta do Piloto is a reference for quality wines and "premium" wine tourism on the Setúbal Peninsula and has one of the largest and oldest wineries in the region. Owned by the Cardoso family for four generations, it became one of the largest producers in Europe and grew linked to the history of Palmela over a century. Whether to learn about the history of generations linked to the production of Moscatel de Setúbal, or because of its privileged location in the heart of Arrábida Natural Park, the visit to the Quinta is a unique experience that is now even more worthwhile.

The Madeira wine promotion strategy for the next five years goes through Omdesign

The Madeira wine promotion strategy for the next five years goes through Omdesign
“To consolidate and increase the notoriety that Madeira wine already has”, not only in the domestic market but in different target markets and “to conquer other markets and new consumers for the category” are the goals of the Madeira Wine, Embroidery and Handicrafts Institute (“Instituto do Vinho, do Bordado e do Artesanato da Madeira” – IVBAM) for the next five years. The promotional strategy, now defined by the entity until 2026, will be based on a market study, at national and international level, developed, over the last eight months, by Omdesign.

“With the know-how we have in the wine sector and with more than 22 years of experience in working wines, including Madeira wines, we were able, with this study and with a multidisciplinary team, to identify the main challenges, but also the numerous opportunities that Madeira wine category has on a regional, national and international level”, says Diogo Gama Rocha, general manager of the agency, indicating that “it is now up to IVBAM and the players in the sector to be responsible for, on their daily work, put into practice the strategy and guidelines defined for the next five years, for the consolidation of the brand and category of Madeira wine”.

Portugal, France, Germany, USA, Japan, United Kingdom, Switzerland and China were the main markets for which the study analyzed consumption habits, buying behaviors and prevailing trends. The goal of the analysis is “to outline the most effective strategy for each one of them, according to the identified needs and opportunities”, clarifies the agency, which shared the insights obtained in a two-day workshop that brought together all sector operators and IVBAM.

Omdesign wins Red Dot with a self-promotion packaging

Omdesign wins Red Dot with a self-promotion packaging
Omdesign has just been distinguished with a Red Dot for the originality, innovation and sustainability of the packaging “We’ve got a lot of nerve!”, a self-promotion package developed at the beginning of 2021, in partnership with Minerva and Niepoort, two iconic Portuguese brands.

We created this special and ecological packaging, which carries the best that the sea gives us, along with what is only born in the Douro. We gathered two ambassadors of our country – canned fish and Port wine – to give life and soul to this project.

With resource to innovation and new eco-friendly alternatives, in line with our commitment to contribute to a greater environmental preservation, always with focus on reduction, we found the solution by a natural color solid cardboard called Eska Brown, produced by Eska B.V. in the Netherlands. It is a 100% recycled cardboard (post-consumer waste) with very sustainable production parameters and natural texture. We adopted this cardboard to give shape to the interior of this self-promotion package that we invite to be reused in everyone's daily life as a calendar or a coaster, among other purposes. Its organic origin makes it biodegradable, compostable and recyclable and also holds the FSC recycled 100% claim and 100% PEFC certifications.

And because we believe that consistency is in our DNA, we developed this project with exclusive resource to recycled, recyclable and biodegradable materials, such as cork, paper and cardboard. The minimalist aspect of the eight pieces that compose this packaging was reinforced with very few finishing, but at the same time differentiating, as high and low modeled relief to illustrate the scales on the labels and the frames around the collectible stamps; the screen printing and the special cutting of the calendar allusive to sea and Douro, with application of two milling cutters on 90º; and also the perforation of the detachable coasters. All the elements are assembled by fitting the pieces, without resource to any kind of glue, enhancing the sustainable facet of this Omdesign’s edition, also fortified by the nature and earth tones adopted.

Omdesign drinks João Pires Rosé

Omdesign drinks João Pires Rosé
Omdesign was once again chosen by José Maria da Fonseca to sign the novelty of the company: João Pires Rosé. The image adopted for this new reference, painted with pastel pink tones, aims to convey a more feminine side of this “delicate and floral wine”, produced from Moscatel de Setúbal and Touriga Nacional grape varieties.

Differentiating materials and finishes were selected, namely stampings, varnishes and fine paper.
Similarly to João Pires Branco, whose image was renewed last year by Omdesign, which counted with the vine of the Moscatel vineyard illustrated in high and low modeled relief, the João Pires Rosé labeling is also adorned with a bouquet of roses, which intends to attest its freshness and its sensorial character. The João Pires brand is kept highlighted in the central position of the label, preserving its original colors.

The creative agency explains that the goal "was to bring to the label the lightness and youthfulness of this drink". In addition to the packaging, the agency from Leça da Palmeira was also responsible for the photo shoot that was carried out and which complements this launching.

According to Omdesign, “the look of this new reference solidifies the brand positioning amongst current and new consumers, while portraying and reinforcing José Maria da Fonseca's values and tradition in the production of wines, since 1834”.

Omdesign, Niepoort and Minerva together in a sustainable self-promotional packaging

Omdesign, Niepoort and Minerva together in a sustainable self-promotional packaging
2020 was a year of extreme challenges for all of us due to the pandemic. We were all like “canned sardine”, we stocked up our larder with cans and more cans for a confinement that we have never imagined, we didn’t change our convictions, we came out of the can every day and never lowered our guard.

At Omdesign, we conserve, since 1998, the same values that inspire us and so we created this special and ecological packaging, which carries the best that the sea gives us, along with what is only born in the Douro. We gathered two ambassadors of Portugal – canned fish and Port wine – to give life and soul to this project.

We challenged Dirk Niepoort, undeniable ambassador of Port wine, to create an original recipe that combines Niepoort's Port wine with Minerva's canned codfish, two iconic and genuine national brands. We selected the best ingredients of our country to enhance the excellence and the flavors of what is more genuinely made every day in Portugal.

All the elements are assembled by fitting the pieces, without resource to any kind of glue, enhancing the sustainable facet of this Omdesign’s edition, also fortified by the nature and earth tones adopted.

We resorted to the Portuguese Photography Centre and to the Lisbon Municipal Archive to revive the photographic patrimony of the two arts that are illustrated in this Omdesign’s packaging.

The image, signed by Omdesign and inspired in the preservation of local biodiversity, celebrates the sustainable values associated to the brand and to this wine.

With a minimalist design that adopts earth and nature tones, the design agency has created for this project an exclusive illustration of a vine branch, that occupies a prominent position on the label, as a mark of the respect for Nature that Dalva brand defends, especially on this Port wine, whose grapes are grown from organic production.

Reinforced by the selected materials and finishing, as fine paper and relief, Dalva Pure fully expresses the purity and character of the Douro region. The packaging was developed by Omdesign and it is in line with the labelling and shares the same finishing, being produced in Kraft cardboard, respecting a more natural, ecological and sustainable appearance.

Musgo featured in Packaging of the World

Musgo featured in Packaging of the World
The Musgo range is composed by two different blends, a red and a white wines, signed by J. Cabral Almeida, a wine producer of the Dão region that makes quality products, with focus on the respect for Nature in its creations. Both wines are highlighted in Packaging of the World.

Omdesign was responsible to give life to its packaging, with a goal to enable it with a sense of origin, inspired by the terroir and pureness.

The naming Musgo was chosen because this plant can be found in abundance in the Dão region, in different colors and formats, due its climacteric conditions, typical of this place. The agency brought to the labeling its scientifical name – Bryophyta Sensu Stricto – and its diverse forms, in a shape of original illustrations of these tufts, created exclusively for this range.

These 360° labels with nature tones present distinctive materials and finishing, as high relief, varnish, alongside the sealing wax in red and white, and also have a unique and premium image supported by the overlapping of fine papers. For Omdesign, this project can be considered more than a wine packaging, since it was also thought to work as a botanical collectible piece.

Omdesign: Message in a bottle

Omdesign: Message in a bottle
The Omdesign’s creative and sustainable commitment to the future

Water is vital for the life of all and for the survival of the species. Given its enormous economic, social and environmental importance, its quality, purity and abundance are crucial for the future of Humankind. Being a finite natural resource, time is short, but Omdesign believes it is in the hands of each and every one of us to contribute actively to a real conservation of the ecosystems.

The goal of this self-promotion “H2Om” packaging is, precisely, to sensitize Omdesign’s partners for this situation and the same time reinforce their commitment to the future.

The pollution of the oceans, associated with the excess of non-recycled and non-biodegradable plastic, is another universal problem making Omdesign realize that a change in attitude and the habits of society is fundamental, on behalf of future generations, and we should all make a sustainable commitment every day that could make the difference… And time is running out.

Omdesign wants to contribute daily to a more sustainable world and that is why, with their ideas well fermented, Omdesign created this unique, recyclable and reusable packaging for toasting to 2020 with all their clients and partners.

“Eau de vie” – or wine brandy, as we know it – was the drink chosen for this celebration. Symbolizing the fire of life, it reflects the strength and excellence with which, at Omdesign, we embrace each project, marking our determination on adding a sustainable alternative on each new creation.

With this packaging, Omdesign’s challenge was to, after sharing this wine brandy, reuse this H2Om bottle, without moderation, for pure, crystal clear water. This gesture was also thought to draw attention for the importance of reusing, since just recycling is no longer enough. There is an increasing awareness of the benefits of reduce and reuse and of the urge to stop producing more, alongside with other waste management methods that need to be considered on the creative process.

The external box is made of recycled, recyclable and reusable cardboard and has special cutting, whereas the bottle is adorned with decorative elements that praise the simplicity of this packaging.

Omdesign wins Gold and Bronze at Pentawards 2020
The Portuguese agency Omdesign has just been twice awarded in the international design competition Pentawards 2020. The projects created for Murganheira and Blandy’s were recognized by the jury of the competition, which annually distinguishes the best works in the world on this sector.

The special edition of the sparkling wine Murganheira “Esprit de la Maison” was awarded with Gold and the Blandy’s “The Winemaker’s Selection” packaging received Bronze. "Both prizes were awarded in the "Luxury" category, which reinforces the projects that Omdesign has created and produced, not only in this area but in all the others that we have worked on, since 1998.", says Diogo Gama Rocha, general manager of the company, which this year attended the Pentawards 2020 virtual ceremony from Leça da Palmeira.

Murganheira sparkling wine “Esprit de la Maison”, available in just 492 units of 1.5L magnum bottles, manually numbered, faithfully mirrors all the essence and DNA of this leading Portuguese sparkling wine brand. “The Winemaker’s Selection” was inspired by the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the discovery of the island of Madeira and it is a very special project for Blandy’s, the largest wine producing company in Madeira.

This year's edition received more than 2,000 entries from 60 countries on five continents. This is the fifth year in a row that Omdesign has been distinguished in Pentawards, adding, up to now, seven awards in this competition: three Gold, two Silver and two Bronze.

Blandy’s launches Heritage Wine Collection with Omdesign

Blandy’s launches Heritage Wine Collection with Omdesign
Blandy’s has just launched “Heritage Wine Collection”, whose first chapter, a 1920’ Bual, has the graphic design and production made by the agency of Leça da Palmeira, Omdesign.

The referred wine has 100 years of ageing and will pay homage to the Blandy’s leader at that time, John Ernest Blandy. Each launch will honor the family member who, at each time, led the company.

“Because it was produced in times of great adversity, Blandy’s Bual 1920 is a true tribute to the men and women who worked at the time on the island and is considered one of the most emblematic wines of the family. Presented to the market in just 1,199 individually numbered bottles, for a total of 900 liters, Blandy’s Bual 1920 has a walnut case and a fabric-lined front in earth tones, which elevates the uniqueness of this edition”, explains the agency.

“The label, which was carefully molded with its own texture created in low relief with the cross of the family’s coat of arms, is manually numbered. The selected materials and finishes, together with the signature of John Ernest Blandy, attest to the brand’s notoriety and the exclusive character of this first “Heritage Wine Collection” launch. Blandy’s Bual 1920 has too a certificate of authenticity and a booklet, which depicts the entire history and essence of this wine”, concludes Omdesign.

There is a medal that embraces the bottle, through a leather thread, whose design was surgically adapted by the agency of Leça da Palmeira. Made of brass, with high relief on the front and back, this medal refers to the old Blandy coin, with different values in “réis”, used during the 19th century to replace low value coins, whose circulation was reduced.

Blandy’s will keep the remaining 840 liters of this wine on stage, as a way to continue to preserve and promote its history since 1811.

Omdesign distinguished at Vega Digital Awards 2020 with film for Sogrape

Omdesign distinguished at Vega Digital Awards 2020 with film for Sogrape
The highest award of the competition was given to the Sogrape film, which invites you to stop, contemplate and respect nature.

Omdesign was again distinguished at the Vega Digital Awards, this year as "Canopus Winner" - the highest award in the competition - with the film created for Sogrape in the midst of a full period of social confinement.

“It is in our nature to carry on”, a true tribute to Vintage Port Wine, transports us to the importance of time in a world of uncertainty. Whenever emptiness takes root, when there’s a change of pace and the world is suspended, nature breathes and the work is born.

This short film, signed and produced by Omdesign, fluctuates, sensorially and visually, between reliving the past, accepting the present and building the future. Nature, time and purpose assume the main role in a narrative of images that transports us to its importance in the process of creation.

With this production, Sogrape invites you to stop, to contemplate and to respect nature, while life carries on.

The award-winning project, which releases the latest 2018 Vintage Port Wines from Sandeman, Ferreira and Offley, was carried out without resorting to new shootings. It takes just over two minutes to tell a story based on the idea that “waiting breeds the beat of a new life, of a new Vintage”.

This edition of the Vega Digital Awards had approximately 1,200 entries, from around 30 countries, which were subjected to a rigorous analysis by a panel of renowned judges from the International Awards Associate.

This is the fourth time that the 100% Portuguese agency of Leça da Palmeira was is distinguished in this North American competition, which highlights the best creative projects in the digital media area.

With this award, Omdesign recalls that it is also in its nature to carry on, without ever lowering its guard, and further strengthens its position in the digital world and raises, once again, the quality of the works created in Portugal by being recognized alongside brands as BMW, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Hamilton Beach, Philip Morris, among others.

Omdesign signs the Day & Night special edition of Kopke

Omdesign signs the Day & Night special edition of Kopke
Kopke chose 2020 to launch, simultaneously, its Colheita Tawny & White Ports 1940. Signed by Omdesign, these two unique nectars celebrate the 1940s.

Omdesign created the Day & Night concept and highlighted at the bottles and packaging, the half-moon symbol around the central axis of the brand’s seal, representing, metaphorically, the carefully ageing that these wines were subjected to, which grants and emphasizes the exclusivity of this special edition.

This duo, that preserves 80 years of history, can be bought as a pack or separately, is already available in very small quantities. The colour contrast proposed by the agency of Leça da Palmeira enhances the cycle of day and night on Earth and reinforces the chromatic DNA of the brand. The fitting of both packages and the symmetry adopted make these packaging complementary and unique, at the same time that reflect the differentiating and innovative character that Kopke represents since 1638.

Composed by materials and finishing as high relief, stamping, screen-printing, fine paper and lacquered wood, which grant them with a quality perception and strengthen the brand awareness, the packages are adorned with elements that symbolize the rays of light and the solar eclipse, the inspiration of Omdesign’s creative team for the conception of these two cases.

Kopke Colheita Tawny 1940 & Kopke Colheita White 1940 witness an extraordinary year, although lived between the instability due to the Second World War and the severe losses incurred in the year’s poor harvest. The low yields, result of a very wet winter and spring and an extremely hot and dry summer, were worth for the remarkable and unique quality of these two unique nectars.

Sogrape says that it's in their nature to endure

Sogrape says that it's in their nature to endure
“It's in our nature to endure”, says Sogrape on its most recent communication campaign. Narrowed in English, it winks to the international market without forgetting Portugal and its landscapes. The film that supports this campaign aims to pay homage to nature and it is also a reminder that we should treat her with respect and care.

Omdesign was the agency responsible for the advertising project, having resorted only to archive footages. With little more than two minutes, the film is based on the idea that “waiting breeds the beat of a new life, of a new Vintage”, since the brand’s goal is also to present the most recent Port Vintages 2018 of Sandeman, Ferreira and Offley.

In a statement, Omdesign explains that the campaign strengthens Sogrape’s principles and values, shared by the agency as well. Following the motto of the project, Omdesign adds that it is also in their nature to endure and, for that reason, they continue working on a daily basis to meet the clients’ needs.

Omdesign was twice awarded for packaging design

Omdesign was twice awarded for packaging design
Omdesign was awarded at iF Design Award 2020 and Wine Design Challenge 2020. The recognitions were attributed to Blandy’s – The Winemaker’s Selection and Quinta do Crasto’s Honore Douro DOC packaging, both created and produced by the agency of Leça da Palmeira.

This year’s edition of iF Design Award has distinguished, in Packaging Design, the Blandy’s special and exclusive packaging – The Winemaker’s Selection –, created for the celebration of 600 years of the discovery of Madeira Island, as well as the Quinta do Crasto’s project Honore Douro DOC, that signs the fact that this emblematic Douro estate is in the hands of the same family for more than one century.

The international competition has counted with approximately 7.300 submissions, from 56 different countries. There were attributed, in the total of the categories, more than 1.400 awards, distributed for 20 countries. This is the fifth year in a row that the agency is recognized in this contest.

Omdesign signs Murganheira Esprit de La Maison

Omdesign signs Murganheira Esprit de La Maison

Murganheira has challenged Omdesign to sign the design of Esprit de La Maison, a unique and exceptional new sparkling wine, produced from the “assemblage” of several Pinot varietals (Noir, Blanc and Meunier), that faithfully mirrors all the essence and DNA of this leader brand in Portuguese sparkling wines, regarding superior quality.

With a contemporary and appellative image, inspired in the original work art composed by a set of museletes that can be found at Murganheira cellars, the agency chose the “Living Coral” colour to the Murganheira Esprit de La Maison Távora-Varosa Sparkling White Wine 2011. The coral colour radiates life and familiarity, symbolizes joy and also represents the consumer’s choice by their most human relations and by social interaction.

There were bottled only 492 bottles in 1,5L magnum format, all of them manually numbered at the collar that is carefully applied by hand, method formerly used in Murganheira’s Vintage bottles.

The noble and rare Pau Santo wood was the main material chosen to give life and shape to the individual exhibitor, also created and produced by Omdesign, for which were selected the best grains of this exclusive wood, highlighting the contrast between the brighter and the darker grains. Its table-shaped format allows to create window displays and tasting spaces in selected locations, as wine stores, hotels and special clients, and it can, simultaneously, be utilized as a glorifier. The illumination was thought to grant a special emphasis to the product, pointing out the different elements, reliefs and details.

The labelling created by Omdesign reproduces the relief, texture and image of the original work of art, overlapped by a “Rustic Blanc” paper where was created a proper texture, in high and low relief, with an element of the Murganheira’s coat of arms.

All the finishing adopted in the labelling, which is composed by overlapping of two papers, and in the premium packaging are in matt velvet, with exception of the information in bronze that are semi-gloss, that gives a distinctive finishing and touch. The coat of arms of Murganheira, by its turn, was reproduced in its original shape and was carefully moulded to be applied in both flat surfaces (packaging and exhibitor) and at the proper bottle. The cork stopper and muselet were intentionally left exposed, like the old Vintage sparkling wines.

Omdesign goes back to Berlin and brings another Red Dot to Portugal
Omdesign was once again highlighted at the international competition Red Dot and wins another design award to Portugal. This time, the awarded project was the Honore Douro packaging, entirely created and produced to Quinta do Crasto, that was recognized in Packaging Design / Beverages category.

The award-winning work, composed of the package, bottle and book, that signs more than 400 years of history of Quinta do Crasto, was fully created by Omdesign. Produced in valchromat, that reminds us of the schist, a typical rock of the Douro soil, this edition is individually numbered and limited to 1.615 magnum bottles of an exceptional Douro DOC wine. Inside, there is a sample of Quinta do Crasto’s book “Quinta do Crasto – A story that began a long time ago (1615-2018)” and a magnum bottle (1,5L) of Honore Douro DOC, a unique blend that gathers, for the first time, two prestigious wines of the company – Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa and Quinta do Crasto Vinha da Ponte. The bottle has in its label a frame and lines in relief that illustrate the geography and terrace of Douro. The conceptual film that mirrors all the essence of this project can be seen here.

This is the third Red Dot that the agency of Leça da Palmeira conquers in this prestigious worldwide contest, after having won, in 2017, with their self-promotion packaging Omdesign 2016 and, in 2015, with the eco-friendly packaging RP10, created to Ramos Pinto.

This year’s competition has counted with more than 8.600 submitted projects, from 54 countries. The award ceremony took place at the Konzerthaus Berlin, in the heart of the German capital, last Friday. According to Diogo Gama Rocha, the agency’s general manager: "We are really proud to go on this stage, for the third time, to receive another Red Dot award to Omdesign’s team. This recognition is, to Omdesign and to Quinta do Crasto, a motivation to keep working in partnership and to surprise the market, Portugal and the world, always with the best Portuguese design."

Quinta do Crasto’s film was awarded with Gold at Graphis

Quinta do Crasto’s film was awarded with Gold at Graphis
The conceptual film created and produced by Omdesign to Quinta do Crasto was awarded with Gold at the Graphis Advertising Annual 2020 competition.

“Honore Port” marks more than 400 years of history of this emblematic estate from Douro with wines recognized worldwide. In little more than 5 minutes, it is shown all the history and essence of this unique Douro estate. This film is a tribute to all those that, since 1615, invested in cultivating the vineyards and creating unique authentic wines, as Honore Port that we can see in this film.

To Omdesign, the challenge was to create an emotional and highly engaging film, that celebrates more than 400 years of Quinta do Crasto’s history and one century on the hands of the same family, that is able to care and perpetuate remarkable wines as Honore Port, a highly luxurious special edition, also created and produced by Omdesign, limited to 400 bottles of a very old Tawny Port with more than 100 years.

The “Honore Port” project earned the Omdesign one distinction at the most recent edition of Pentawards. It is a special package created to sign the more than 400 years of history of Quinta do Crasto and ended up as a silver award-winner at “Luxury” category.

For him, to receive this distinction is, undoubtedly, the confirmation that it is necessary to continue working and innovating, to do well and different, every day. Always towards excellence.

“Honore Port” had as inspiration the motto “Honore et Labore” (honour and work), defended by Quinta do Crasto. The packaging and decanter aim to picture the geography and landscapes of the Douro region, using materials as walnut wood, Portuguese silver and alcantara.

Blandy’s special edition marks 600 years of the discovery of Madeira Island
The Winemaker’s Selection is a special edition, limited to 600 units of Blandy’s created to celebrate the 600 years of the discovery of the archipelago of Madeira. The project, that “gathers some best Vintages from the family’s stock, the know-how and expertise of the winemaker Francisco Albuquerque, at the same time that preserves and praises the origins, the national materials and the most typical and traditional arts of Madeira and of our country”, was developed by the agency Omdesign.

The special edition is composed by a packaging produced in Vinhático wood, integrating wicker and silver details on its sides and being covered with alcantara on the inside. “The Portuguese silver is highlighted on the external packaging as well as on the crystal bottle, throughout an illustration of the Madeira Island, totally manually carved and chiselled by experienced Portuguese artisans”, describes the agency, adding that “the decanter was created by the hands of master glassblowers using hand-blown crystal in its purest form, and is inspired by a model of an 18th century bottle made in the USA”.

The history and inspiration for the packaging of this limited edition also includes a booklet that is part of the case, “presented on an envelope decorated with Madeiran embroidery, an homage from Blandy’s to another typically Madeiran art, that is adorned with an illustration of some elements of the most characteristics species of the iconic Laurissilva forest, a remarkable environmental legacy, that celebrates this year the 20th anniversary as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage site.

Omdesign was multi-awarded at A' Design in Italy

Omdesign was multi-awarded at A' Design in Italy
Omdesign has just won, in Italy, more four awards at the A’ Design Award & Competition: one Gold and three Silver.

The image of the 1001 bottles of Quinta Maria Izabel 1001, created by Dirk Niepoort and his sons exclusively for the French distributor Antic Wine, was distinguished with Gold in “Packaging Design” category. The labelling is a reproduction of a painting owned by the company, that portraits the Douro Valley and illustrates the landscape that is possible to behold through this Douro estate.

In the same category, “Omdesign 2018” self-promotion packaging has conquered Silver. Created for the 20th anniversary of Omdesign, this edition, inspired by the 875 years of the history of Portugal, is a journey to the origins of our country and to the Portuguese Discoveries. This original packaging is made with sisal shaped as a monkey’s fist knot, one of the most famous knots in the world that is used since olden times by sailors for throwing the end of a cable further. To carry it, we chose a bottle sling knot, a technique used by wise sailors, since ancient times, to carry their bottle and to always keep it cool underwater.

The Honore project, developed for Quinta do Crasto, was twice awarded at this important international competition: “Honore Douro” in “Packaging Design” category and “Honore Port” in “Luxury Design”. Honore is the celebration of more than 400 years of history of Quinta do Crasto and aims to pay homage to all those that, since 1615, invested in cultivating the vineyards and creating authentic wines, as Honore Douro and the exclusive Honore Port.

This was the fourth time in a row that Omdesign was distinguished in this contest, that this year counted with projects from more than 100 countries, and is highlighted by being the only Portuguese company awarded in the two categories in which Omdesign was recognized.

The award ceremony took place on June 28, at Teatro Socieale Como, in Italy. To Diogo Gama Rocha, General Manager of Omdesign: “The awarded projects are a recognition of the work that Omdesign has been doing to the brands that proudly develops, a boost to the whole team and to the Portuguese design in general that, fortunately, still has a lot to show around the world.”

Quinta do Crasto’s “Honore” by the hands of Omdesign

Quinta do Crasto’s “Honore” by the hands of Omdesign
To sign more than 400 years of history and one century on the hands of the same family, Quinta do Crasto has recently launched two special commemorative wines – Honore Port and Honore Douro Doc – that were presented in limited editions and reinforce the exclusivity of this project.

Omdesign was responsible for the renewal of Quinta do Crasto’s logo, as well as the design and production of all “Honore” materials, namely the different packaging’s, the concept film that mirrors all the essence of this project (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT-VFPPlg1g&t) and the book “Quinta do Crasto – A story that began a long time ago (1615-2018)”, that aims to perpetuate, in approximately 250 pages, the history and the legacy of this emblematic Douro estate.

Honore Very Old Tawny Port is a luxurious edition, limited to 400 bottles of a Porto wine with more than 100 years. Inspired by the motto “Honore et Labore” (Honour and Work), this unique wine aims to pay homage too all those who, since 1615, invested in cultivating the vineyards and creating unique wines, as Honore Port. Omdesign has fully developed this commemorative edition, that mirrors the Douro lines and landscapes, where Quinta do Crasto born and evolved, and the magnificent decanter in crystal that was individually numbered. Inside, there is a little booklet that presents the great history of this Quinta and a bartop, also in crystal, fully hand-graved. The exterior packaging was made with noble materials, as walnut wood, silver and leather, emphasizing the singularity of this packaging.

Simultaneously, it was created and produced another exclusive edition to Honore Douro Doc, an exceptional blend that gathers, for the first time, two prestigious wines of Quinta do Crasto – Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa and Quinta do Crasto Vinha da Ponte –, as a result of the excellent harvest of 2015, the same year that the Quinta has completed its 4th century. Honore Douro Doc was presented in 1615 magnum bottles (1,5L) and its packaging reminds us of the typical schist of Douro, by its colour and material selected, with a sample of Quinta do Crasto’s book.

Omdesign developed also two individual packaging for the "crown jewels" – "Quinta do Crasto Vinha da Ponte" and "Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa" –, both produced with grapes of the best terroirs of this iconic estates from Douro.

Creativity International Awards - Print & Packaging has distinguished seven works signed by Omdesign. The Portuguese agency was recognized by the US design contest, adding one Platinum and six Silver awards. According to the organization, this is the only company from Portugal awarded at this year’s edition of the initiative.

The project that resulted in Platinum for Omdesign consists of a self-promotion packaging developed last year, being highlighted at “Green/Sustainable Design” category. The Silver awards arrived through the special edition “130YO Gran Cruz” and the special packaging “Heritage” created for the same brand, the Quinta de Ventozelo Gin and the Pomares, Altano and Quinta Maria Izabel 1001 wines.

“Being a Portuguese agency awarded seven times in this edition, with our costumers and partners, strengthens the commitment to quality and the excellence of our work, which is made with the same determination, audacity, rigor, consistency and focus on excellence, since 1998”, said Diogo Gama Rocha, general manager of the company.

Omdesign conquers Gold at Pentawards
The Portuguese advertising agency Omdesign has won the Gold, in “Self Promotion” category, in this year’s edition of the Pentawards, that took place in Guggenheim Museum in New York, USA.

The company was awarded for its self-promotion packaging “Omdesign 2017”, that was inspired by the fires that devastated Portugal over the past year, and it was built from a trunk burnt in the forest fires, “without any treatment”. Omdesign offered 165 pine trees – one for each award the agency won in the last three years – and launched the challenge for their plantation. Inside each packaging, you may also find a water bottle and a drop-by-drop water dispenser.

Pedras and Blandy’s in two new spaces with Omdesign

Pedras and Blandy’s in two new spaces with Omdesign
Two centenary brands – Pedras and Blandy’s – show in their new museum spaces all of their brands’ history, tradition and evolution. And what have in common these two visitors centres? They were turnkey developed by Omdesign.

At Funchal, Omdesign renewed the Blandy’s Wine Lodge and also created new theme areas. In an old alley, a new area represents the city’s history and evolution, in addition to the visitors centre, that tells the history of the building, the Madeira wine and the arts carried by this wine till today, as cooperage and the traditional ageing process at the several floors of the building. At the end of the visit, there is a museum dedicated to Blandy’s family, to the seven generations and to various businesses that they have been developing in the last 200 years.

The agency from Leça da Palmeira was responsible for the whole project, not only regarding the concept, but also its design, production and installation. The oldest cellar of Madeira Island, located in an ancient convent of the 15th century and annually visited by thousands of people, has been frequently improved by Omdesign, that works with Madeira Wine Company for over 15 years.

All the elements, colours and selected materials refer to the Madeira wine universe and are in line with identity, position and values of Blandy’s brand, managed by the same family since 1811.

In relation to Pedras Experience, located in Vila Pouca de Aguiar, it is a unique space, sensorial and interactive, that shows all the essence of Pedras. Integrated in Pedras Salgadas Spa & Nature Park, owned by Super Bock Group, this new area offers experiences for the whole family, at the same time that tells us the history of the century-old mineral park of Pedras Salgadas and of the brand, founded in 1871.

It is possible to visit different rooms that mirror the brand’s history, DNA and vast collection, with a strong presence of water and Nature throughout the whole path. The visit starts with “A viagem da gota” [The journey of drop] film that shows the 100 years cycle of this 100% natural water. Former scenarios of various times were here recreated as, for example, a spa and a typical room of the end of 19th century. Also the evolution of the brand’s image and advertising is present at Pedras Experience.

Pedras fans are invited to participate in a 360º experience, with recourse to virtual-reality goggles, through which they travel in different scenarios and times of Pedras Salgadas park. We can also revive histories, old and current, of employees and clients, as well as memorable moments told in first person, through the movie “Testemunhos” [Testimonials] created for this new space.

Thought for the whole family, Pedras Experience has areas of animation and interactivity, proper for all ages, namely for children. It is also possible to customize a Pedras label, choose the favourite scenario and to take home, at the end of the visit, a customized Pedras bottle.

Omdesign signs the Pedras Experience identity, image, concept, production and installation, as well as the design, development and contents of all audiovisual and digital section, namely the website, app, films, 360º experience, among other materials.

Through the app, available in four languages, it is possible to plan ahead the visit to Pedras Experience. The app presents itself as a complement, providing a set of additional information, and also works as audio-guide and map, suggesting multiple activities that can be done, inside and outside the Park.

It is important to note that these two projects, inaugurated in July, and turnkey developed by Omdesign, reinforce the plurality of solutions given by the agency, specifically in visitors centres and museum spaces, in addition to the remaining areas in which the agency already has a vast collection and know-how, for over 20 years, namely in branding, packaging, advertising, digital, point-of-sale, among others.

Omdesign signs Grainha’s new labelling

Omdesign signs Grainha’s new labelling
The new image of Grainha brand, owned by Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, is signed by Omdesign.

This project is the continuation of the work Omdesign has been developing with this Douro’s producer regarding the labels’ image renewal of several brands, namely Pomares and Quinta Nova.

Two references – Grainha Reserva Branco 2017 e Grainha Reserva Tinto 2016 – are now presented in a more clean and minimalist labelling, where the illustration of a grape seed moves to a more prominent position. The grape varieties, in turn, become more important with this renewal that keeps the two elements that were already part of these labels.

The Quinta Nova umbrella stays in the bottom of the label, but adopts a new colour – schist grey -, characteristic of Douro Region, like Omdesign had already defined for the wines of Quinta Nova and Pomares range. To Omdesign, these wines mirror and reinforce with the brand new image, that keeps the same chromatic universe previously used, all their essence and values, having different elements in perfect harmony and balance.

Omdesign is back to gold at iF Design Award
Omdesign has stand out at iF Design Award 2018 with its self-promotion project “Packaging Omdesign 2016”, that gave them the gold award in the “Packaging – Beverages” category. It is the only Portuguese project rewarded with this distinction, says the agency.

According to the jury, the project highlighted itself because of “the story-telling aspect: the heritage of the Portuguese port wine is reflected in the wood and cork box and the simple glass bottle within. The box contains a surprise that makes the product's life even longer: An acorn which can be planted to grow into an cork oak tree. A holistic design approach, bringing together a beautiful mix of natural materials and design style.”

“We are truly satisfied to be recognized at the highest level, alongside from major brands as Audi, Ferrari, Google, Bosch, Philips, among others, and in keeping our position in this strict group of iF Gold Winners, says the Chief Executive of Omdesign, Diogo Gama Rocha.

Pomares with new image

Pomares with new image
Pomares, a brand from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo wine producer, has a new look, created by the design and advertising agency from Leça da Palmeira, Omdesign.

Their three wines, two whites and one red, are now presented with a new labelling in pastel tones, although they keep “the chromatic universe that were already on the market”. Omdesign reveals that there was “a clear concern in establishing the harmony and balance between the two different elements that integrate the new graphic composition adopted, the brand has gone from strength to strength, moving to the top of the labelling, Omdesign opted to keep the two pieces that were already constituting those labels, switching the brand’s umbrella to schist grey, a characteristic feature from Douro”. The goal of this renewal was to bring the millennial generation closer.

“The Pomares range positions itself in the high quality gastronomic wines segment, but we consider that they should be more uncommitted, corresponding therefore to the nature of this generation.”
Luísa Amorim, administrator of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

Omdesign works with other company’s wine references, such as Terroir Blend Reserva, Grande Reserva and Referência, three 2015 harvests recently launched in Portugal.

Gold for Omdesign at Pentawards

Gold for Omdesign at Pentawards
The Omdesign 2016 self-promotional packaging, which won a Red Dot Award in August, has once again been commended at the international scene, with a gold at Pentawards. The design competition award was given in Barcelona this Saturday, in the event's Self-Promotion category. The advertising agency from Leça da Palmeira took gold this year, after winning a silver and a bronze in 2015.

This Sunday was also the last day the Omdesign exhibition, Focusing on Excellence Since 1998, was open to the public. The exhibition opened in early June, at the Quinta de Santiago Museum in Leça da Palmeira.

The agency's progress was highlighted by the exhibition. Since 2015, Omdesign has received 160 awards. And just in this first half of 2017, it has won around 40 awards at various competitions, including Pentawards (France), International Design Awards, Vega Digital Awards and Muse Creative Awards (USA), A’ Design Award & Competition (Italy), Wine Design Challenge (England) and iF Design Award (Germany).

When speaking about the projects on show at the exhibition, Diogo Gama Rocha, managing director of Omdesign, said in an interview with M&P that “it is extremely difficult to single out any one project, because all our work, clients and brands are equally important to us. But if I must talk about just one, I'll choose our Omdesign 2016 self-promotional packaging, which we designed in December last year. Inspired by the shape of an acorn, this wood and cork packaging, without any oil derivatives whatsoever, was our way of giving back to nature what we take from it every day to create other packaging and materials. We invited everybody who received this packaging to water the acorn inside and plant the cork oak once it germinated”. In the same interview, he also mentioned that Omdesign has “as part of its strategy it has taken part in a number of national and international design and advertising competitions and it is indeed very gratifying to see our prize-winning projects "travel the world", bringing even more prestige to national design and the brands we are so proud to work with".

Omdesign wins the only Gold of the iF Design Award
The Portuguese agency Omdesign has just won the greatest distinction and highest award of the iF Design Award - the iF Gold Award - with the "Quinta de Ventozelo Olive Oil" project in the "Packaging - Food" category. Of the more than 5,500 entries from 59 countries, only 75 have been awarded with this important prize, in one of the most prestigious design contests in the world, said the agency in a statement.

This is the second time Omdesign is awarded in this international competition, after having won an iF Design Award with the book "250 Years of Stories", created for Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo in 2016. According to the jury's assessment, "this is a homage to beautifully elegant design at its best.

The central image of Quinta de Ventozelo olive oil is a stamped olive tree, designed in detail. The perfect balance between classic typography and the composition of design elements assembled in cotton paper, to create a sensitive and tactile design. A magnificent classic of timeless appearance."

The iF Design Award 2017 ceremony was held last Friday at the iconic BMW Welt in Munich. The winner project "Quinta de Ventozelo Olive Oil" will represent Omdesign and national design in different exhibitions worldwide.

Omdesign creates Quinta de Ventozelo image
Quinta de Ventozelo, one of the largest and oldest Douro estates, founded in 1569 and purchased in 2015 by Gran Cruz group, is now on the market with a new identity and image created by Omdesign. This agency chose “an elegant image, with simple lines and noble tones”, which aims to reflect the exclusivity and personality of these wines while reinforcing the premium positioning adopted by the group for the brand. The elements connected to tradition, namely the coat of arms and the year when the estate was founded, were not forgotten by the agency.

The new image was extended to the entire Quinta de Ventozelo range, composed by ten Douro DOC references and the superior categories of Port wines - LBV and Vintage.

Furthermore, Omdesign has also developed the design of the limited edition of Quinta de Ventozelo extra virgin olive oil, which is available in the main Portuguese gourmet shops with an exclusive packaging.

Blandy’s rebranding with Omdesign signature
The agency Omdesign was chosen for Blandy’s rebranding. With this new identity and range renewal, the Madeira wine brand intends to “reinforce its positioning and the premium nature of the brand and its wines”.

The advertising agency explains they wanted to create “a more authentic, up-to-date and differentiating identity, using noble tones, that was inspired by the strong tradition of the company, which has been run by seven generations of the same family, since 1811”.

The new Blandy’s image has additional features, namely the Blandy family crest, which reinforces the date the company was established, as well as the symbol of the oak casks, where wines rest for a long time.

Frasqueira wines have now an image composed by the traditional handmade painting, referring the grape variety and the year, and also a numbered label with information about the cask and the cellar where the wine evolved.

The premium packagings display the new logotype and family crest, heat engraved on top of the wooden box. Inside, there is a certificate of quality and origin of these wines, as well as a brochure signed by the CEO of the company, Chris Blandy.

The agency from Leça da Palmeira, which works with Blandy Group since 2003, has also developped new packagings in oak wood and cardboard for the superior categories.
